St. Bonaventure Athletics Reveals Re-Energized Brand Identity

New logos and wordmarks take effect for the 2024-25 academic year

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – It’s a new era for St. Bonaventure Athletics.

St. Bonaventure University has introduced a re-energized athletics brand identity, one that gives the department’s 19 NCAA Division I programs a fresh look while honoring the proud tradition of Bona’s Athletics.

St. Bonaventure partnered with Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) on the artistic creation of the new logos and marks. CLC is the oldest and largest collegiate licensing company in the United States and provides services to over 800 colleges and universities, athletic conferences, bowl games, the Heisman Trophy, and the NCAA.

“We are happy to officially share the new Bonnies Athletics marks and logos with our student-athletes, alumni and fans,” said Dr. Jeff Gingerich, university president. “The Athletics Department worked with one of the industry’s leaders in CLC to create a modernized look that also gives respectful nods to our past. The reimagining of our brand will help create consistency across all platforms while allowing for flexibility of use with expanded secondary and alternative marks. We are excited for this new chapter in our Athletics history.”

John Gregory, CLC’s senior director of Creative Services, said CLC was “thrilled and honored” to partner with St. Bonaventure Athletics to help usher in a new era for the esteemed Bonnies brand.

“Our goal was to honor and build on the storied history and tradition of Bonnies Athletics while delivering a refreshed set of marks that provides flexibility for sports teams and elevates the St. Bonaventure brand in the marketplace for fans everywhere,” Gregory said.

OUR RICH HISTORY
What’s old is new. For the first time in several decades, we officially adopt a block B logo as a secondary logo, connecting to the very origins of St. Bonaventure Athletics. A similar logo appeared on the first jersey worn by a St. Bonaventure intercollegiate basketball team during the 1919-20 season and returned as part of the men’s basketball program’s centennial celebration. The logo immediately resonated with Bonnies fans and became a popular throwback. Now newly stylized with a modern look, the B returns as a callback to our proud history with an eye to the future. 

THE ENCHANTED MOUNTAINS
A key component of our refreshed branding is a never before used Enchanted Mountains Bonnies wordmark. This new wordmark represents the stunning beauty of St. Bonaventure’s campus with the rolling foothills of the Allegheny Mountains which are always visible overlooking campus and the Bonnies athletic fields while serving as an unforgettable image of the Bonaventure experience for our alumni wherever their home address may be following graduation. 

HONORING THE PAST, EMBRACING THE FUTURE
Fans of Bonnies Baseball will instantly recognize the interlocking STB logo that has adorned the team’s hats over the past decade. The logo was initially the idea of former Bonnies Baseball student-athlete Andrew Revello, who tragically passed away after a car accident in 2013. The logo imagined by Revello, known as “Dice” to his teammates, became a source of pride for the baseball team in the years following his passing. A century earlier, the first STB logo adorned the team jerseys in 1906. That legacy lives on now as the STB for the first time becomes an official mark of the department as an alternate logo to be used by all Bonnies teams.

The stylized Bonnies cursive script first appeared on basketball jerseys during the 1982-83 season when the men’s basketball team earned a postseason berth following a 20-win campaign. It also returned during the program’s centennial season and gained popularity with fans old and new. A modernized version of the logo now officially joins the St. Bonaventure Athletics brand refresh. 

REPRESENTING THE BONNIES BRAND
Along with the new logos comes reimagined wordmarks, bringing a modern look with greater brand consistency for Bonnies Athletics. The new wordmarks and numerals will create a unified brand for Bonnies uniforms into the future.

In addition to the release of the new logos, St. Bonaventure Athletics has launched newly branded merchandise on its online shopping portal: GoBonnies.com/Shop. Fans are encouraged to visit the St. Bonaventure Bookstore in the Reilly Center as well as the Sports Locker and Rick’s Golf World in Olean for officially licensed merchandise.
