For the second time this season the Fordham defense gave St. Bonaventure fits as they fell to the Rams, 65-51, tonight at the Reilly Center.
The Bonnies finished just 18-of-56 (32 percent) from the field, including 7-of-26 (27 percent) in the second half as they were outscored 36-24 in final 20 minutes.
"I know I sound like a broken record, but it came down to making shots and they made them and we didn't," said head coach Jim Crowley.
The two teams traded baskets throughout the first half as the opening stanza featured seven ties and six lead changes. St. Bonaventure held its last lead of the game at 10:18 when freshman Erica Schiefen converted on a pass from sophomore Priscilla Edwards to give the Bonnies at 14-13 edge.
Fordham led the rest of the way and went into the break with a 29-27 led. The brown and white pulled within two when senior Stefanie Collins took the full court pass from sophomore Maripier Malo and layed it in as time expired.
The Rams scored the first five points of the second half to lengthen their lead to seven at 34-27. The lead hovered around five until Fordham took control with a 25-12 run over a 10-minute span gave the Rams their largest lead of the game (18 points) at 63-45 with 2:39 remaining.
Fordham shot 42 percent (20-48) from the floor on the evening and 8-of-11 from beyond the arc. The Rams also held a 41-29 advantage on the glass.
Edwards was the lone Bona player in double figures with 13 points. Redshirt freshman Ashley Edwards finished with nine points, a team-high six rebounds and three steals.
Four of Fordham's starters finished in double figures, led by junior Lisa Carrol's 18 points. Senior Jada Jefferson posted her second double-double of the season against the brown and white, finishing with 12 points and a game-high 15 boards.
The loss is the third straight for the Bonnies as they fall to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play. With the win, Fordham sweeps the season series from the brown and white and improves to 7-9 and 2-4 in the A-10.
St. Bonaventure will receive a week off from game action. They will return to the Reilly Center court to take on Xavier on Friday, Jan. 27 for the first of three straight home games. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
