Three Bonnies To Compete In USTA/ITA Northeast Regional

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Three St. Bonaventure men's tennis players are set to compete in the  USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships, which begin Thursday and run through Tuesday at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

SBU seniors Oscar Yanez and Luis Guevara (pictured) and junior Elliot Fanshel earned berths into the annual event, which features the top Division I collegiate players from across the Northeast. Each of the three Bonnies will compete in singles draws, while Yanez and Guevara will also team together in doubles competition.

Yanez and Guevara, who are in the qualifying singles draw, will be in action starting Thursday, while Fanshel, who is the main qualifying draw, will begin play on Friday.

Yanez meets Cornell's Kyle Berman (5-3 this season) at 8 a.m. and Guevara faces Marist's Joris Van Eck (6-3) at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Fanshel, meanwhile, will squares off against Binghamton's Ismael Dinia on Friday at a time to announced.

Through three tournaments this fall, Fanshel and Guevara are tied for the team lead with four singles victories each, while Yanez has collected three singles wins.

Doubles competition also kicks off Friday as Yanez and Guevara will be pitted against Fairfield's Erik Kremheller and Cameron Amyot in a match scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. The Bonnies' top duo is 6-3 in nine doubles matches this fall.
