NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off a strong performance at the SBU Fall Classic, the St. Bonaventure men's tennis team returns to the court for the Yale Shootout on Saturday. The Bonnies will square off against players from Yale and Army in the two-day event, which will not have a fixed format.
Senior Luis Guevara led the Bonnies at the SBU Fall Classic, going unbeaten in three singles matches and teaming with fellow senior Oscar Yanez (pictured) for a 3-0 mark in doubles competition in the three-team invitational. The performance improved Guevara to 4-2 in singles matches and 5-1 in doubles competition while partnering with Yanez in two tournaments this fall.
Junior Elliot Fanshel also was undefeated in three singles matches in the SBU Fall Classic and teamed with freshman Celso de Vera Rehberger for two doubles victories. De Vera Rehberger, Yanez and sophomore Trevor Haskell each accounted for two singles wins in the tournament. De Vera Rehberger, Yanez and Fanshel rank second to Guevara on the Bonnies' roster with three singles victories each.
Yale is led by seniors John Huang and Daniel Hoffman, who are ranked 113th and 114th, respectively, among singles players nationally. Hoffman and classmate Marc Powers, meanwhile, are ranked 54th nationally among doubles teams.
Army's 16 singles players have recorded a 26-35 combined record in events this fall, while its doubles teams are 18-15.
