Playing its first game as a nationally ranked team, #25/RV St. Bonaventure puts its nation-best road mark on the line looking to set multiple program records Wednesday against Massachusetts in a road doubleheader with the men's team.
After just missing out of the top-25 in the Associated Press Poll each of the last two weeks, the Bonnies finally cracked the rankings with the third-most wins in the nation on Monday, garnering 82 points – 44 clear of DePaul, the first team receiving votes. In the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, SBU was the first team out of the top-25, garnering 34 points.
The Bonnies are currently 10-0 on the road, one of just three unbeatens on the road in the nation (No. 1 Baylor: 6-0; No. 9 Green Bay: 8-0). The 10 road triumphs ties the program record for a single season with the 2007-08 club. SBU has also won 11 straight games, matching the program record with the 2009-10 squad which commenced its campaign with 11 consecutive victories.
Additionally, Bonaventure will be looking for its 10th A-10 win of the season, which would set a program record for regular-season conference wins. Since joining the league prior to the 1986-87 season, the program record is nine – a total they've reached the last four years, including this season.
Bona has won seven consecutive games in New England, dating back to a 56-48 loss at the hands of Rhode Island on Jan. 19, 2008. Here's a quick glance at the last six trips SBU has made to N.E.: Jan. 2, 2009 @ Bryant, 67-58 | Jan. 4, 2009 @ Yale, 68-35 | Dec. 2, 2009 @ Quinnipiac, 77-67 | Feb. 2, 2010 @ Massachusetts, 69-54 | Feb. 27, 2010 @ Rhode Island, 63-53 | Dec. 28, 2010 @ Sacred Heart, 62-54.
