ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team opens its spring season at 11 a.m. Sunday against St. Francis (Pa.) at the SBU Fitness Center.
The Bonnies competed in the Navy Invitational, Yale Tournament and hosted the SBU Fall Classic during the fall season. The trio of Luis Guevara, Oscar Yanez (pictured) and Elliot Fanshel was also invited to play in the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships at Yale.
The doubles team of Guevara and Yanez aim to build on a strong fall season for St. Bonaventure. The senior duo produced a 6-4 record, including a 3-0 mark in the SBU Fall Classic and two more victories in the Navy Invitational.
Guevara and Fanshel tied for team-high honors with four singles wins during the fall. Each player went unbeaten in three matches during the SBU Fall Classic.
Yanez, Javier Ortiz, Trevor Haskell and Celso de Vera Rehberger tallied three singles victories apiece in the fall. De Vera Rehberger and Fanshel, meanwhile, accounted for four doubles triumphs each, including two wins together in the SBU Fall Classic.
St. Bonaventure was tabbed to finish 13th in the Atlantic 10 this spring in voting by the conference's coaches. The Bonnies finished with a 3-18 record overall and 1-6 in conference in 2011-12.
St. Francis opened its spring season with a 7-0 loss to Navy last week. The Red Flash was scheduled to play at Niagara on Saturday before traveling to SBU.
