ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team returns to the SBU Fitness Center courts at 1 p.m. Friday against Robert Morris. The Bonnies (1-0) enter the match aiming to build off their spring season-opening 5-2 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday.
Bona swept three doubles matches from the Red Flash and also received singles triumphs from Elliot Fanshel, Luis Guevara, Javier Ortiz and Trevor Haskell (pictured). Guevara and fellow senior Oscar Yanez improved to 7-4 in doubles competition on the year, while the pairs of Fanshel and Ortiz and Haskell and Celso de Vera Rehberger added doubles victories for the Bonnies.
Fanshel, a junior, and Guevara lead St. Bonaventure with five singles wins apiece this year. Both players have forged a 5-6 singles mark. Haskell, a sophomore, owns a 4-3 record and is the only Bona player who is over .500 in singles matches.
Robert Morris (1-3) opened its spring season with road losses to Dayton, 6-1, and Wright State, 7-0. The Colonials split two matches against Mercyhurst (7-0 win) and Carnegie Mellon (9-0 loss) during their fall season.
After facing Robert Morris, the Bonnies host Colgate on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m.
