Guevara, Ortiz Pace Men's Tennis In Loss to Robert Morris

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure's Luis Guevara and Javier Ortiz (pictured) each won singles matches and the duo also teamed for a doubles victory on Friday against Robert Morris, but the Bonnies (1-1) dropped a 4-3 decision to Colonials (2-3) in men's tennis action at the SBU Fitness Center.

Playing together for the first time this year, Guevara and Ortiz partnered for an 8-3 triumph at No. 1 doubles to start the day off well for Bona.

In singles play, Guevara registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position over Jose Limon for his team-leading sixth victory on the season. At No. 3 singles, Ortiz followed with his fifth win of the season with a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Fernando Leite.

St. Bonaventure's No. 1 singles player Elliot Fanshel and No. 4 Celso de Vera Rehberger pushed their competitors to three sets before falling. Fanshel fell 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to Angus Thomson, while de Vera Rehberger suffered a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 loss to Tarun Kishan.

SBU's Gabriel Cardenas was topped 6-3, 6-2 by Andre Coiro at fifth singles and Trevor Haskel was defeated by Juan Andres Hirmas, 7-6 (8), 6-2, in an exhibition singles match.

In other doubles matches for the Bonnies, Haskell and de Vera Rehberger fell 8-5 at No. 2 while Fanshel and Cardenas combined for an 8-7 (3) victory in an exhibition.

Guevara improved to 8-4 in doubles and 6-6 in singles matches on the year, while Ortiz is now 5-4 in doubles and 5-5 in singles competition.

The Bonnies return to action against Colgate at 3 p.m. Saturday at the SBU Fitness Center.
