BLACKSBURG, Va. – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team's trip south to face Virginia Tech resulted in a 7-0 loss to the No. 46 Hokies on Friday afternoon at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Bonnies fell to 2-2 on the spring while Virginia Tech improved to 5-2 and remained unbeaten in five home matches.

SBU's Luis Guevara and Javier Ortiz suffered their first singles defeats of the spring season against the Hokies. Guevara fell, 6-4, 6-3, to Trpimir Kujundzic at second singles, while Ortiz saw his four-match winning streak dating back to the fall season snapped with a  6-1, 6-3 loss to Joao Monteiro at the fourth position.

The Bonnies' other four singles players were also defeated in straight sets. Elliot Fanshel fell, 6-2, 6-2, to Hunter Koontz; Oscar Yanez bowed, 6-0, 6-0 to Mauricio Antun; Trevor Haskell was bested, 6-1, 6-1, by Aaron Gomez; and Celso de Vera Rehberger was handed a 6-0, 6-4 loss by Marko Lovrinovic.

St. Bonaventure's top two double's teams also lost for the first time this spring. The Bonnies' No. 1 duo of Guevara and Yanez faltered, 8-2, to Andreas Bjerrehus and Koontz, while their second tandem of Fanshel and Ortiz fell, 8-4, to Kujundzic and Lovrinovic. SBU's De Vera Rehberger and Haskell were topped, 8-1, by Monterio and Lucas Oliveira at third doubles.

The Bonnies return home to face Bucknell at 11 a.m. Sunday at the SBU Fitness Center.
