ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team returns to action against Colgate at 3 p.m. Saturday at the SBU Fitness Center.
Coming off a narrow loss to Robert Morris last Friday, the Bonnies (1-1) are aiming for their second win of the season. They opened the campaign with a home victory over St. Francis (Pa.).
Colgate, meanwhile, is 1-3 on the year and snapped a three-match losing streak last Saturday with a 7-0 blanking of Hartford. The Red Raiders opened the season with losses to Buffalo, Bryant and Fairfield.
St. Bonaventure suffered a 6-1 loss at Colgate last season. Then-sophomore Javier Ortiz notched the Bonnies' lone singles victory in that match, while SBU's current top doubles tandem of Luis Guevara and Oscar Yanez chipped in a win against the Red Raiders.
Guevara, who owns a 6-6 singles mark this year, leads the Bonnies with victories. Ortiz (5-5) and classmate Elliot Fanshel (5-7) rank second on the squad with five wins. Ortiz brings a three-match winning streak into Saturday, while Guevara has prevailed in his last two outings.
Guevara and Yanez have partnered for a 7-4 record this season, helping SBU to a 19-17 team mark in doubles matches.
After facing Colgate, the Bonnies hit the road for a match against Virginia Tech next Friday, Feb. 15.
