Men's Tennis Aims To Return To Winning Ways Against Siena

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team returns to the court to face intrastate rival Siena at noon on Sunday at the SBU Fitness Center.

Both teams are aiming to rebound from 7-0 losses, as the Bonnies (3-7) were blanked by Youngstown State and the Saints (2-2) were shutout by Colgate last weekend. Siena visits Niagara on Saturday before meeting SBU.

The match against Colgate kicked off Siena's spring season. The Saints defeated St. Franics (N.Y.) and Rider while losing to Hofstra during their fall campaign.

Each of St. Bonaventure's three victories on the year has come at home, including a 4-3 defeat of Colgate on Feb. 9. Siena is winless in its one road match – at Colgate.

In singles play, Ryan Schmitz and Eric Sumanaru lead the Saints with 3-1 marks. Siena players are 13-11 collectively in individual matches.

The tandems of Alex Burbine and Michael Amico and Dylan Roberts and Darren Reisch are each unbeaten in three matches, leading the Saints to a 9-3 doubles record as a team.

The doubles partnership of junior classmates Javier Ortiz and Elliot Fanshel posted SBU's lone victory against Youngstown State. With their second straight win together, Ortiz and Fanshel improved to 5-4 on the year.

The senior duo of Oscar Yanez and Luis Guevara lead the Bonnies with an 11-8 doubles mark. Individually, Yanez and Guevara have also produced eight singles triumphs each, second only to Ortiz's team-leading nine wins.

After facing Siena, St. Bonaventure travels to Yale next weekend for matchups against Binghamton and the host Bulldogs on Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24.
