ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team produced one of its best performances of the spring season on Sunday afternoon in a 6-1 victory over Siena at the SBU Fitness Center.

The Bonnies (4-7) won five of the six contested singles matches and swept the three doubles matches en route to their second victory in the last three outings. The Saints dropped to 2-4 with their fourth consecutive loss.

Five St. Bonaventure players contributed to both singles and doubles victories on the day, highlighted by Oscar Yanez's narrow triumph at first singles. Playing in the top position for the first time this season, the senior edged Ryan Schmitz, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

Yanez wasn't done, as he also teamed with classmate Luis Guevara for a 9-7 win over Schmitz and Eric Samanaru at first doubles. Guevara, meanwhile, topped Peter Collins, 6-1, 6-3, in the third singles match.

Junior Elliot Fanshel posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Dylan Roberts at second singles for the Bonnies and classmate Javier Ortiz rallied past George Parkhurst, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2, at fourth singles. Fanshel and Ortiz also combined for an 8-6 triumph over Roberts and Matt Funiciello at second doubles.

Sophomore Trevor Haskell (pictured) came back to register SBU's final singles win, scoring a 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 victory over Funiciello from the sixth position. Haskell also partnered with freshman Gabriel Cardenas for an 8-3 win over Alex Burbine and Vik Kadaba in the final doubles match.

Ortiz's singles victory improved him to a team-best 10-9 on the year. Yanez and Guevara, meantime, picked up their ninth individual wins on Sunday – tied for second on the team.

In doubles play, Yanez and Guevara moved to 12-8, while Ortiz and Fanshel upped their mark to 6-4 with their third straight victory together.

St. Bonaventure next travels to Yale for matchups against Binghamton and the host Bulldogs on Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24.
