ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team finished the weekend on a high note, topping Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the SBU Fitness Center. The Bonnies suffered a 6-1 home loss to New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday.

The victory over IPFW (3-10) snapped a four-match losing streak and improved St. Bonaventure's spring record to 3-6.

Senior Oscar Yanez (pictured) picked up a pair of singles victories over the weekend out of the second position for the Bonnies including a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over IPFW's Andres Cobos. Senior Luis Guevara and junior Javier Ortiz also posted singles wins at the third and fourth positions, respectively, on Sunday, with Guevara besting Connor Andrews, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and Ortiz topping Jonathan Raa, 6-4, 6-4.

Ortiz's individual victory was his team-leading ninth on the year. Yanez and Guevara, meanwhile, both moved to eight wins – good for a tie for second on the team.

SBU also took two of three doubles matches from IPFW, as the Bonnies' second team of Ortiz and classmate Elliot Fanshel notched an 8-5 win over Guell and Cobos, and the third team of sophomore Trevor Haskell and freshman Celso de Vera Rehberger partnered for an 8-6 victory over Andrews and Raa.

Though Bona's top doubles team of Yanez and Guevara fell 8-6 to the Mastodons, the senior duo started the weekend with an 8-1 win over NJIT's Erik Arturrson and Petr Rousar. The two-match split moved Yanez and Guevara to 11-7 on the year.

Yanez also rallied for the Bonnies' lone singles win over the Highlanders (8-2), outlasting Holger Norregaard, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.

The Bonnies next hit the road for a match at Youngstown State at 7 p.m. Friday.
