Men's Tennis Visits Youngstown State on Friday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team returns to the court against Youngstown State at 7 p.m. Friday at Boardman Tennis Center.

The Bonnies (3-6) are aiming to build on their 4-3 victory over IPFW on Sunday and are also seeking their first road win of the season.

Following three straight losses to start the season, Youngstown State (4-3) is on a four-match winning streak with victories over Robert Morris, Chicago State, IPFW and Dayton. Like the Bonnies, the Penguins defeated IPFW, 4-3. Whereas YSU blanked Robert Morris, 7-0, SBU lost to the Colonials, 4-3.

In singles play, the Penguins are led by Rodrigo Campos and Felipe Rosa, who own 9-6 and 8-4 records, respectively. Youngstown State is 52-46 in singles matches as a team.

Sebastian Hagn and Dawoud Kabli's 7-5 doubles mark leads the Penugins, who have forged a 24-20 overall in doubles competition.

Senior Oscar Yanez has played well of late for the Bonnies, who suffered a 5-2 home loss to Youngstown State last year. Yanez, who is 5-2 over his last seven singles matches, scored a pair of individual victories last weekend against NJIT and IPFW and also teamed with classmate Luis Guevara for a doubles win over NJIT.

Yanez and Guevara have each posted eight singles win on the year, second to junior Javier Ortiz's nine victories. In doubles matches, SBU's top team of Yanez and Guevara have partnered for an 11-7 mark, while the second team of Ortiz (pictured) and junior Elliot Fanshel is 4-4.

After this weekend, the Bonnies return home to host Siena at noon on Sunday, March 17 at the SBU Fitness Center.
