YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team suffered its second shutout of the season as Youngstown State blanked the Bonnies, 7-0, on Friday night at the Boardman Tennis Center.
SBU's second doubles team of Elliot Fanshel (pictured) and Javier Ortiz posted the Bonnies' lone win against the Penguins, as the junior duo prevailed 8-6 over Zeeshan Ismail and Rodrigo Campos. With its second straight victory, the partnership of Fanshel and Ortiz improved to 5-4 on the year.
In other doubles matches, St. Bonaventure's top team of Luis Guevara and Oscar Yanez was beaten, 8-5, while the third team of Trevor Haskell and Celso de Vera Rehberger fell, 8-1.
Guevara nearly picked up a point for the Bonnies at third singles, but YSU's Dawoud Kabil rallied to edge the Bonnies senior, 2-6, 6-4, 12-10. St. Bonaventure players were defeated in straight sets in the other five singles matches.
The loss dropped the Bonnies to 3-7 on the year while Youngstown State improved to 5-3 with its fifth consecutive win.
St. Bonaventure next returns home to meet Siena at noon on Sunday, March 17 at the SBU Fitness Center.
