How It Happened

The Bonnies and Rams entered today's contest neck-and-neck in the conference standings and today's game would play out just that way. The back-and-forth affair featured three lead changes and three ties in the first half, with the teams entering halftime knotted up at 33. St. Bonaventure looked as though it was going to take a three-point lead into the break, but a foul on a last second half-court shot would send the Rams' leading scorer Erin Rooney to the line where she knocked down all three of her free throws.  Rooney, the second leading scorer in the A-10 entering today's contest, was held to just five first half points and would finish with 11 on the game. The Bonnies' defense, spearheaded by Emily Michael's tenacious effort, was able to not only lock down Rooney but force the entire Fordham squad into difficult shooting situations the entire game.

Both teams opened the second half trading baskets, as the Rams were propelled by eight second half three-pointers (12-28 on the afternoon). Although there were six lead changes in the second half, Fordham would hold its final lead of the game at the 7:12 mark. The Bonnies then went on a 21-12 run over the final seven minutes to seal the victory. Healy scored 11 of those points and Nyla Rueter hit two big jumpers in the final four minutes, one of which extended the Bonnies' lead back up to six points and forced a Fordham timeout. St. Bonaventure, which was exceptional from the free throw line all day, knocked down nine out of 10 FT's in the final minute of the game. The Bonnies finished the game shooting an impressive 18-22 from the line.
