How It Happened
It was La Salle who had the upper hand today for much of the contest as the Bonnies were kept at bay and could not overcome a first half deficit, despite several attempts to cut into the Explorers' lead. The Bonnies last held the lead in the first half at the 9:37 mark when a Katie Healy jumper gave the Brown and White a 13-12 lead, its second lead of the game. La Salle would go on an 18-7 run to close out the half and take an eight point lead into halftime.
La Salle came out firing to open the second half and outscored St. Bonaventure 7-2 in the opening two minutes of the second half and forced a Bonnies timeout, as the Explorers extended their lead to thirteen points, their largest lead of the game. The Bonnies would cut the La Salle lead to seven points and down to six points multiple times in the final nine minutes, coming to within five points, twice in the final 1:03 to play. SBU could not complete the comeback and La Salle would claim the six point victory.
Beyond The Box Score
St. Bonaventure, who failed to make the postseason last year and was predicted to finish in ninth place in the Atlantic 10 preseason coaches' poll this season, has secured second place entering the A-10 tournament this coming week in Richmond, Va.
Healy's 22 points today marked the 11th conference game out of the team's 16 played where she has scored 15+ points. Healy's five steals today was also a new career-high.
Little's 16 rebounds today puts her at 267 for the season, which is just three rebounds shy of breaking the Bonnies single season record for rebounding.
The Bonnies outscored the Explorers 27-25 in the second half, as Healy was responsible for 18 of those points for the Brown and White.
Today's game marked the third time this season the Brown and White scored below 50 points in a game. The 55 points allowed was the ninth time this season an opponent has scored just 55 or fewer points against SBU this season.
Both teams shot below 40% today, as SBU went 18-51 (35.3%) from the field and La Salle was 21-59 (35.6%).
