ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's basketball team led for nearly the entire contest, but visiting Edinboro rallied late for a 67-64 exhibition victory Saturday night at the Reilly Center.
It was yet another close game between the Bonnies and Fighting Scots, who have now played four games that have been decided by 10 points or less in their eight-year run of exhibition contests.
Saturday night, the Bonnies led by a 39-33 tally at halftime and by double digits multiple times throughout the contest. Out of the halftime break, the lead swelled to 11 at 44-33 following a three-pointer off the fingertips of Danielle Migliore and a layup by Mariah Ruff.
Edinboro would answer, though, cutting to within five as the third quarter came to a close.
The Bonnies led by a 52-50 tally when the game was delayed due to an injury involving freshman Abigail Johnson.
After the delay, Edinboro seized control with back-to-back threes from Michelle Jahn and Jontay Walton for a four-point lead at the 6:54 mark, the first advantage for the visitors since early in the first quarter.
St. Bonaventure had an opportunity to tie it in the final seconds, but a three attempt fell short.
Four Bonnies reached double-figure scoring on the night, led by Jalisha Terry who registered 18 points and six rebounds. Migliore netted four three-pointers for 12 points while Ruff (12 points, four assists) and freshman Emily Calabrese (10 points, seven rebounds) had solid statistical performances.
UMass transfer Ciara Rosten led all scorers with a double-double effort of 20 points and 10 rebounds for Edinboro.
The Bonnies officially open the season Friday night vs. Niagara at the Reilly Center with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. That game will be the first of two at the RC as the men's game will follow at 8 p.m.
