BONNIES CONTINUE WEEKEND SWING WITH TRIP TO ALBANY: St. Bonaventure faces a quick turnaround, playing less than 48 hours after hosting Buffalo on Friday night. Sunday will mark the first time the Bonnies have played at Albany since 2007 and just the second time ever. Bona is familiar with making the trip to the state capital, however, after playing at Siena on Nov. 12.
SCHEDULE STRENGTH: St. Bonaventure has played an impressive list of non-conference opponents as of late with Albany continuing that trend. Albany is ranked No. 89 in the national RPI rankings, making the Great Danes the fourth straight RPI Top 100 opponent the Bonnies have faced. Toledo (RPI 28), Penn State (RPI 56) and Buffalo (RPI 16) all ranked high in the RPI when facing the Bonnies.
HARVEY, MIGLIORE SHINE VS UB: Though the Bonnies had a disappointing effort vs. Buffalo Friday night, there were a couple notable bright spots for the Brown and White: Junior Arielle Harvey had her highest scoring output in a Bonnies uniform, delivering 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting and went 2-of-3 from long distance after shooting 1-of-4 from long range combined through the first 10 games. Sophomore Danielle Migliore also posted her first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
ADDING TO HER RESUME: Senior Mariah Ruff drained four 3-pointers in the Dec. 9 win over Penn State. It marked the ninth game of her career with four or more 3s. Her career high is seven in a game during her freshman season vs. Rhode Island. Ruff also continues her rise through the program record books: She has 338 assists, tied with Julie James (1981-85) for sixth in program history. In scoring she has 1,067 points, closing on Roni Hergenroeder (1987-91; 1,069 points) for 19th in program history.
MAYCOCK SURGING: Junior Mckenna Maycock was outstanding over the first 10 games of the season, again playing a key role as the Bonnies defeated Penn State on Dec. 9. Maycock tied her career high with 23 points, hitting a career-best nine field goals. She joined some elite company with the performance, her fourth 20-point game in the first 10 contests of the year. In doing so, she became the first Bonnies player to score 20 or more points at least four times in the first 10 games of the season since Dana Mitchell did so in 2008. Mitchell, one of just two 2,000-point scorers in program history, ranks second in Bonnies all-time scoring and is the only SBU women's basketball player to have her jersey retired as her No. 5 hangs from the rafters of The RC. Mitchell actually accomplished the feat in back-to-back years, scoring 20-plus points four times during the first 10 games of 2008-09 after registering those totals five times in the opening 10 contests of the 2007-08 campaign. Maycock, who never had scored more than 15 points in a game prior to this season, has scored 20+ in four of the last eight outings - in addition to the PSU game, she tallied 23 points vs. UMBC and 21 points each at Bucknell and Canisius.
CAPITALIZING ON OTHER'S MISCUES: The Bonnies continued their trend of capitalizing on the turnovers of the opposition by leading Penn State by a 15-11 margin in points off turnovers on Dec. 9. The Bonnies outscored opponents in points off turnovers in eight of the first 10 games this season. That changed in a big way Friday night, however, as Buffalo was +25 in points off turnovers (29-4).
JOHNSON MAKES AWAITED DEBUT: Freshman Abigail Johnson made her long awaited Bonnies debut Dec. 9 vs. Penn State. The England native, who missed the first nine games of the season due to injury, was key to the Bona win with six rebounds in 18 minutes. Johnson is an accomplished international player - she represented Great Britain in the 2017 FIBA U20 European Women's Championship in Israel, leading the tournament with 9.3 rebounds per game in addition to averaging 7.9 points. She also averaged 5.4 ppg and 8.0 rpg at the 2016 FIBA U20s and also played at the 2013 FIBA U6 Euro Championships.
HARVEY JOINS STARTING FIVE: Junior Arielle Harvey joined the starting lineup for the first time on Dec. 4 vs. Toledo. A star on the junior college scene last year, Harvey started her college career with a brief stint at UNC-Greensboro before transferring to Daytona State following an illness. At Daytona State, Harvey finished with double-digit points in 26 of 30 games last year. She reached a career high of 28 points twice while playing junior college ball.
WELCOME BACK KEELY: Redshirt sophomore Keely Fresh made her first game appearance in over a year on Nov. 29 vs. Delaware, playing a minute off the bench. Fresh missed all of last season and the first seven games this year due to injury. Prior to the Delaware game, her previous appearance was in the NCAA Tournament Second Round at Oregon State in March 2016. She set career highs for points (4) and minutes (15) in her first extensive return to action Dec. 15 vs. Buffalo.
COUNCIL COMING ON: Sophomore Rhianna Council had a breakout game Dec. 9 vs. Penn State, registering career highs in points (9) and minutes (29). Council has seen her role increase recently - she has averaged 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 23.5 minutes the last four games (DEL, TOL, PSU, UB).
