NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure placed 233 student-athletes on the 2021-22 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
That number represents over 67 percent of St. Bonaventure's student-athlete population.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a combined fall and spring semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the academic year to be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Both freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award. In each of the last five years, the league honored over 3,000 student-athletes per year. Over the course of the last three years, A-10 student-athletes set honor roll records with over 3,500 honorees each year while navigating the COVID-19 Pandemic and its effect on academics as well as managing societal and mental health challenges during that time frame.
Bona's women's lacrosse had 34 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, good for 92 percent of that team's roster this past year. Women's soccer placed 26 student-athletes on the Honor Roll; 84 percent of the roster. Other Bonnies leaders included baseball (77 percent), softball (85 percent) and women's swim and dive which each had 23 selections, with the women's swim and dive team achieving a perfect 100 percent ratio for athletes earning conference recognition.
Bonnies men's cross country/track had 22 honorees (85 percent) while men's soccer boasts 21 and men's swim and dive checks in with 16 and women's cross country/track with 15. Men's tennis placed seven of nine student-athletes on the list and women's tennis saw six of eight achieve Honor Roll status. In addition, golf placed seven of 11 roster members and women's basketball saw eight of 13 on the Honor Roll.

"I commend our student-athletes once again for their dedicated work in the classroom," stated A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. "It's quite impressive that through the transition of our member institutions to a more traditional learning environment, (post COVID) over 3,500 of our student-athletes achieved a 3.0 GPA, and 2,299 of those had a 3.5 GPA or better. That's a testament that academics are a priority for our student-athletes and our member institutions."
