Twenty-One Newcomers Join Bonnies Baseball As Fall Season Opens

The St. Bonaventure baseball team welcomes a host of new faces to fall practices as 21 newcomers have joined the program.

"It was a long process this past year searching for talent to replace a large group of graduate students and graduating seniors," Bonnies head coach Jason Rathbun said. "We are very excited about this group. We really like the talent of our freshman class as well as the experience of our college transfers. This group has a chance to make their impact to the program in year one."

The Bonnies brought in student-athletes from 13 different states plus Canada and 13 of the newcomers already have experience at the collegiate level.

Get to know the new Bonnies as fall ball gets underway:

Jeremiah Atwell, C, Eastlake, Ohio: Atwell is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound right-handed catcher who could also play in the outfield. He hit .333 for his career at Willoughby South High School where he also posted a .452 on-base percentage with a .983 fielding percentage behind the plate. He was a First Team All-Conference pick the last two seasons, helping his team to a district runner-up finish as a junior. He was the team's Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and the Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. Academically, he graduated top 10 in his class and was an All-Academic Team selection each year. He is majoring in sports management/analytics.

Alex Barger, RHP, York, Pa.: Barger was a top pitcher during his time at Central York High School, also seeing time in the outfield. On the mound, he recorded a career ERA under 3.0 and also recorded a 0.54 ERA in 36 innings of travel ball with Complete Game Academy. He hit .325 over his high school career and was a Perfect Game Preseason All-American last spring. Over the summer he pitched for the Danville Otterbots of the Appalachian League. He is a physical education major.

Ethan Catney-Forbes, RHP/1B, Burlington, Ontario, Canada: Catney-Forbes is an imposing figure both on the mound and at the plate with his 6-foot-6, 250-pound frame. In his 2022 season at Aldershot High School, Catney-Forbes led the team in wins, ERA, and strikeouts on the mound. At the plate, he hit a team-high nine home runs, while leading the team in RBIs, slugging percentage, and OPS. He helped lead his high school team to a COBA Championship in 2016. Catney-Forbes competed for the Great Lake Canadians, Ontario Royals, and Burlington Bulls in travel baseball. He was named the most valuable player for the Burlington Bulls in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Catney-Forbes also participated in hockey, volleyball, and basketball in high school, while also being an honors student with distinction. Academically, he is majoring in sports management.

Tristan Ciampa, RHP, Wilmington, Mass.: Ciampa is a right-handed pitcher who had a ton of success at Northern Essex Community College where he went 10-0 with a 2.48 ERA this past spring. He was named an NJCAA All-American in June after ranking third nationally in victories, also averaging 11.93 strikeouts per nine innings. He helped key a run to the NJCAA Division III World Series and a 38-8 final record for Northern Essex CC. His control was also outstanding as he struck out 72 batters against 16 walks in 54.1 innings of work with a 1.05 WHIP. Ciampa's teams won back-to-back regional championships in 2022 and 2023 before finishing third in the nation this year. In the late season he became a closer and earned two saves in the postseason. He was also a Dean's List selection at Northern Essex and plans to major in business at St. Bonaventure.

Joel Connors, RHP, Brampton, Ontario, Canada: Connors is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-hander who is in his graduate season. He was a two-way player for Lakeland CC where he hit .279 with six homers as a catcher. Most recently, he played for St. Andrews (N.C.) University in NAIA where he was on the mound exclusively with three saves out of the bullpen and a 4.94 ERA including 31 strikeouts in 31 innings this past season.

Gavin Constantine, INF, McKinney, Texas: Constantine joins the Bonnies as a true freshman from the Lone Star State. At McKinney North High School, he batted .421 with 23 stolen bases this spring and was named First Team All-Conference in both his junior and senior seasons. He was crowned his team's MVP this past spring after taking his team's Defensive MVP honors in 2022. A three-time Perfect Game All-Tournament Team selection, he was also a preseason Rawlings PG All-American pick the last two years. He was also an Academic All-District honoree who plans to major in business management.

Antonio Cordeiro, C, Pittsburgh, Pa.: Cordeiro battled .350 with a .443 on-base percentage and 1.110 OPS after smacking seven doubles and four homers as a senior at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High this spring. He did not make a single error behind the plate in 126 innings, throwing out eight attempted base stealers while picking off four other runners. A PIAA 6A First Team pick, he was also a High Honor Roll student who is majoring in sports management.

Ryan Davis, 1B, Waco, Texas: Davis played the last two seasons at Paris Junior College in his native Texas where he helped his team set the school record for wins twice – first with 39 victories in 2022 and then 41 this past season when they were Region 14 champs. He was a First Team All-Region 14 selection after leading the conference in batting average (.402) and hits (78) as a sophomore in 2023, adding a .456 on-base percentage and 11 doubles while driving in 43 runs. The left-handed batting first baseman also was a 4.0 student in junior college and will major in criminology at SBU.

Cam Demos, RHP, Downers Grove, Ill.: Demos was on the Central Arizona junior college squad that won the 2022 NJCAA Division I national championship and posted a 3.38 ERA this past spring. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound righty pitched in the highly regarded Northwoods League in each of the past two summers, making three appearances with the La Crosse Loggers this summer after five outings with the Duluth Huskies in 2022. He also was an NJCAA Academic All-American at Central Arizona where he graduated with Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees with a 4.0 GPA. He will major in English at Bonaventure.

Aaron Graves II, OF, Upper Marlboro, MD: Graves will add another left-handed bat to the Bonnies outfield after hitting .312 with five homers and 75 stolen bases in his career at Riverdale Baptist High. He was a Second Team All-League selection as a junior and a Baseball Factory Preseason All-American. An Honor Roll student all four years of high school, he is majoring in sports management.

Aidan Grudzinski, OF, Greencastle, Pa.: Over his varsity career at Greencastle-Antrim High School, Grudzinski batted .324 with a .391 on-base percentage and 51 RBIs from the right side. An All-Conference First Team and Mid-Penn First Team selection, he led his conference in RBIs as both a junior and a senior, helping his team to the 5A Pennsylvania State semifinals and back-to-back conference crowns. He is majoring in strategic communications.

Harrison Kaufman, SS/3B, Seattle, Wash.: Kaufman makes the journey from the West Coast where he hit .338 in 41 games last season with Shoreline CC just north of Seattle. He drove in 20 runs and stole nine bases with a .430 on-base percentage. He will major in environmental studies at St. Bonaventure.

Morgan Little, 1B, Keyser, West Va.: Little comes to St. Bonaventure after starring at West Virginia Potomac State where he played for his father Doug Little the past two seasons. The son of a coach who owns over 800 victories at the junior college level, he was a star at the plate for WVU Potomac State. In two seasons, he collected 88 hits, slashing .346/.448/.547 and was named NJCAA Division I Region 20 First Team this past spring for his work at the plate as well as his defense at first base. He was also named to the Region 20 All-Tournament Team after his strong postseason performance for a club that won 30 games in 2023. An Honor Roll student in the classroom, he will major in finance.

Robert Mannino, C/OF/1B, Marlboro, N.J.: Mannino spent a redshirt season at Purdue in 2022 after being ranked as a top-five catcher in the state of New Jersey as a high school senior when he was named All-State. He played in 21 games last season at Florence-Darlington Tech in South Carolina, hitting a home run with 13 RBIs. He will major in business management at SBU.

David Marshall Jr., SS/UTL, Downers Grove, Ill.: Marshall earned All-Region accolades in NJCAA Region 4 this past season with the College of DuPage in his home state of Illinois. He was also an All-Conference selection after leading the team with a .420 batting average (66-for-157). He was also the team's leading run producer with 62 RBIs while ranking fifth nationally by drawing 44 walks to lead his squad in on-base percentage at .563. He smacked 13 doubles with four homers and scored 62 times this past spring as his team won 34 games. In two seasons at the junior college level, he slashed .390/.512/.530 with 86 RBIs and 103 hits. Also an Honor Roll student, he is majoring in sports studies.

Chance Moore, RHP, Jacksonville, Fla.: A 6-foot-5, 215-pound right-hander, Moore was a two-way player in junior college at Garrett (MD) College. He will be used off the mound with the Bonnies, where he made 13 appearances including 10 starts with a 4.25 ERA and 1.19 WHIP this past spring, striking out 53 batters in 53 innings against just six walks. When in the lineup, he also hit .317 with four homers as an infielder. He started his collegiate career at Daytona State (Fla.) College where he was an Academic All-Conference honoree. He will major in sports management at St. Bonaventure.

Cameron Rizzo, INF, Glen Allen, Va.: A true freshman, Rizzo hit .400 with 26 stolen bases, two homers and a .533 on-base for Deep Run (Va.) High School. A First Team All-Region and All-State selection as a senior this spring, he hit a game-tying RBI single in the seventh inning of Deep Run's regional playoff comeback victory. He will major in economics at St. Bonaventure.

Michael Salina, RHP, Webster, N.Y.: Salina will add to Bona's starting rotation, returning to Western New York where he played at Webster Schroeder High School before beginning his college career with a year at George Mason last season. He was a two-time All-Greater Rochester selection while in high school. He made 10 appearances in his collegiate debut with a 2.61 ERA, striking out 11 batters over 10.1 innings of work.

Aiden Starn, RHP, Pennsville, N.J.: Starn helped Lackawanna College to the NJCAA Division II World Series this past May as he posted a 6-2 record with 62 strikeouts across 65 innings of work. He made 13 appearances, pitching at his best down the stretch with five straight quality starts to end the year including in the World Series where he was outstanding against the No. 1 team in the country. He tossed six innings, allowing two runs with one walk and seven strikeouts against the eventual national champion Heartland CC. He is majoring in sports management.

Paul Vossen, OF, Reno, Nev.: Vossen transfers to St. Bonaventure from Utah Valley where he played in the WAC for the Wolverines and put up solid numbers at the Division I level. He played in 49 games with 48 starts as a sophomore, hitting .257 while leading the team in triples with four and swiping 10 stolen bases which tied for 10th in the WAC. He smashed two home runs, had 19 RBIs and was named to the WAC All-Academic Team. He was named First Team All-State and All-Region in his home state of Nevada during his high school career after hitting .457 with 30 RBIs as a senior. Following high school, he first attended the University of Iowa where he played at the high major level. He played in four games for the Hawkeyes before the 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic and then was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2021, appearing in 11 games that season before transferring to Utah Valley. He is a business management major.

Kade Walker, LHP, Chicago, Ill.: Walker, a 6-foot-3 left-handed pitcher, spent two seasons at the junior college level at Cuesta (Ca.) College and is a native of Chicago. He was a three-time All-Conference performer at De La Salle Institute in high school before heading to Cuesta where he threw 19.1 innings with 18 strikeouts last season. In two seasons, he struck out 31 batters across 38.0 innings of relief. He will major in communication social justice and advocacy at St. Bonaventure.
