ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure baseball has added First Team All-America East transfer outfielder Mike Gunning to the program for the 2025 season, head coach Jason Rathbun announced.

Gunning, a product of Rocky Point, N.Y., started his collegiate career at Herkimer CC where he batted .360 with 40 RBIs and 10 home runs for Rathbun's national junior college championship squad.

"I am really excited to get a chance to coach Mike again," Rathbun said. "He has put together two great seasons at the Division I level so we know the type of impact he can have in our lineup. I think Mike will fit in great with our culture. Adding him is a home run for our program and that's exactly what I think Mike will do a lot for us this year."

He played the past two seasons at Binghamton University where he immediately made an impact at the Division I level.

As a junior in 2023, he started all 50 games for the Bearcats as the team's everyday right fielder/designated hitter. He batted .285 with 18 doubles and 31 RBIs, ranking top-70 nationally in doubles per game. In the outfield, he made just one error in 88 chances.

This past season, he earned First Team All-Conference honors for the America East program as he started all 43 games played with a .277 batting average and 37 RBIs. His doubles power turned into frequent home run trots as he tied the Binghamton program record with 16 homers on the year, leading the America East in bombs while ranking fourth among all AE players in slugging percentage (.627) and sixth in OPS (.997). Two of his homers came at national No. 1 Wake Forest in early March.

Gunning will have one year of eligibility remaining.
