Bonnies Head To The Big Apple To Face Fordham Saturday

The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team travels to the Big Apple to take on Fordham Saturday, Jan. 25. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Gym.

TIPPING OFF
The Bonnies are looking to snap a four-game losing skid following an 83-56 loss at Saint Joseph's Wednesday evening.

Freshman Zoe Shaw registered a new career-high with 19 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists in 35 minutes. Classmate Hannah Richardson also tallied a new career-high with 10 points in 25 minutes. Redshirt senior Dani Haskell finished the game with eight points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

The Hawks shot 9-for-16 in the first period while holding the Bonnies to 1-for-11 shooting, building a 22-2 lead after one. 

Richardson tallied eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter for the Brown and White.

SHAW SHINING
Aussie Zoe Shaw continues to shine during Atlantic 10 play this season. She is averaging 14.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 43.0 percent from the floor and 51.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Following Wednesday's games, Shaw leads all A-10 freshmen and ranks third in minutes (33.5 mpg), seventh in three-point shooting percentage (51.2 percent) and 15th in scoring (14.1 ppg).

Overall, Shaw is averaging 10.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She is shooting 45.6 percent from three-point range, ranking fourth overall and first among A-10 freshmen.

FRESHMEN FINDING MINUTES
Among 59 total freshmen that have played a game in the Atlantic 10 this season, the Bonnies' six freshmen all rank in the top 25 in minutes per game.

Zoe Shaw leads all A-10 freshmen with 33.5 minutes per game while Mackenzie Pettinelli ranks fifth at 26.2 minutes per contest. Caitlin Frost sits sixth at 25.9 minutes per game.

Lena Walz ranks 12th (18.0 mpg), Hannah Richardson 21st (14.3 mpg) and Macy Smith 23rd (13.6 mpg).

Shaw and Pettinelli are the one of three Atlantic 10 freshmen to start 15 or more games this season.

SCOUTING THE RAMS

  • Fordham enters Saturday coming off its bye with a record of 11-7 overall and 5-2 in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams have scored wins over Richmond, Duquesne, George Washington, Loyola Chicago and Dayton during A-10 play.
  • The Rams finished last season 13-17 overall and 8-10 in A-10 competition, falling to Loyola Chicago in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Fordham was picked to finish tied for ninth with Loyola Chicago in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
  • Bridgette Mitchell is in her second season as the head coach at Fordham, posting a 33-30 record in the Bronx. Mitchell began her head coaching career at Northeastern where she went 23-24 from 2021-23. Mitchell was a standout player for Duke from 2006-10, helping the Blue Devils to a 109-22 record during that span.
  • Taylor Donaldson leads the Rams and ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, averaging 17.2 points to go with 4.3 rebounds per game. Irene Murua also averages double figures for Fordham, chipping in 11.8 points while grabbing a team-best 6.2 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY
The winner of Saturday's matchup between the Bonnies and the Rams will break a deadlock in the all-time series. The victor of the 49th all-time meeting will gain the edge in what is a 24-24 series between the two schools.

The Rams, however, have won the previous 11 meetings and 15 out of the last 17 contests. The Bonnies last defeated the Rams Jan. 7, 2016, 55-41, behind 14 points apiece from Katie Healy and Nyla Rueter.

Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley is 16-12 all-time against Fordham.
