Bonnies Return Home To Host La Salle Wednesday

The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team returns home following a two-game road trip to host La Salle Wednesday, Jan. 29. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.

TIPPING OFF
The Bonnies are looking to snap a five-game losing skid after dropping a back-and-forth matchup at Fordham Saturday afternoon, 51-49.

Zoe Shaw poured in a career-high 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting to lead the Bonnies while Caitlin Frost registered the second double-double of her career, posting 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Hannah Richardson and Dani Haskell chipped in seven points each for the Brown and White.

Neither team trailed by more than three points in the second half of Saturday's game.

Fordham's Taylor Donaldson made back-to-back baskets with under two minutes to play to give the Rams a three-point lead.

With 30 seconds to play, Frost was fouled and sent to the line. The freshman made both, pulling the Bonnies within one.

Donaldson made one of two at the line after the Bonnies were forced to foul, making it a 51-49 game and giving the Bonnies a chance to win or tie the game with 27 seconds on the clock.

On the final possession, Frost had an open look on the wing from three-point range with one second to play, but the shot bounced out, giving the Rams a two-point victory.

ATLANTIC 10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Bonnies freshman Zoe Shaw was tabbed as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Monday afternoon.

Monday's honor marks the second time this season Shaw has been recognized as A-10 Rookie of the Week, earning her first accolades Dec. 23.

Shaw averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 60.7 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from beyond the arc over two contests last week for the Bonnies.

Wednesday at Saint Joseph's, Shaw registered 19 points to go with six rebounds and four assists, finishing the game shooting 8-for-14 from the field.

She followed that performance with a new career-high of 22 points Saturday afternoon at Fordham. Shaw shot 9-for-14 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds in 38 minutes.

For the year, Shaw is averaging 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 33.7 minutes per game. She is shooting 45.2 percent from three-point range, ranking fourth overall and first among A-10 freshmen.

Shaw has really shined during Atlantic 10 play this season, averaging 15.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from three-point range.

She leads all A-10 freshmen and ranks third in minutes (35.8 mpg), fifth in three-point shooting percentage (50.0 percent) and 12th in scoring (15.0 ppg).

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS

  • La Salle enters Wednesday's contest 7-15 overall and 1-8 in Atlantic 10 play, earning a victory over Loyola Chicago Dec. 3 to begin the A-10 slate. The Explorers also have wins over Delaware, Rider, American, Lehigh, Chestnut Hill and Northern Kentucky this season.
  • The Explorers finished last season 8-22 overall and 5-13 in A-10 play. La Salle was picked to finish 15th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
  • Mountain MacGillivray is in his seventh season as the head coach at La Salle. He has posted a 79-119 record during his time in Philadelphia, guiding the Explorers to back-to-back winning seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
  • Ashleigh Connor leads the way for the Explorers, averaging 11.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Aryss Macktoon also averages double figures for La Salle, chipping in 10.1 points to go along with 4.9 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies and Explorers are set to meet for the 27th time Wednesday evening. La Salle holds the edge in the all-time series, 20-16, and has won the previous two matchups.

Bona's is 10-6 all-time against the Explorers at the Reilly Center, including their most recent win over La Salle Jan. 26, 2022 when the Bonnies won, 61-57, behind 21 points from Asianae Johnson.

Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley is 12-9 all-time vs. La Salle.

The Bonnies remain at home to host Duquesne Sunday, Feb. 2. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
