Noteworthy: He did not play competitive basketball until he was 17 years old ... his mother, who is 6’2”, played on the Senegal national basketball team and she introduced Youssou to the game ... his brother briefly played professional basketball in France ... when he was 17, he was chosen for the Sports for Education and Economic Development (SEEDS) program in Senegal, which led to his earning a place on the team at Lee Academy in Maine ... among his friends from the SEEDS program are former Louisville and current Minesota Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng and guard Thierno Niang, who helped Wisconsin-Milwaukee to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2014.
