Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - St. Bonaventure's baseball team split its first two games on its week-long trip to Florida, losing 6-4 to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday and defeating Penn 12-4 on Sunday. The Bonnies, who dropped three games at Duke to open their season two weeks ago, are now 1-4.

Sunday, the Bonnies trailed Penn 4-1 through six innings before they rallied. St. Bonaventure scored six runs in the seventh, three in the eighth and two more in the ninth to overcome the Quakers. In the decisive seventh frame, the Bonnies recorded just three singles but took advantage of three walks and two hit batters.

The Bonnies had 11 hits on the afternoon - two apiece for junior out fielder T.J. Pennino, sophomore second baseman Kevin Suminski and junior center fielder Randy Moley. Pennino, sophomore designated hitter Tristan Mulcahy and senior third baseman Matt Mardeusz all were credited with two RBIs.

Sophomore Jim Britton went eight innings on the mound to record his first win of the season. Britton (1-0) allowed four runs - all in the third inning - on six hits. He struck out six and walked only one.

In their first game in the Sunshine State, the Bonnies dropped a 6-4 decision to Mount St. Mary's despite three home runs by Mulcahy. All of Mulcahy's round-trippers were solo shots; they came in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings in three consecutive at-bats by the sophomore designated hitter. The Bonnies, however, fell behind 3-1 after three innings and were unable to generate much offense outside of Mulcahy's blasts. Their only other run came in the fourth on an RBI single by senior left fielder Joe Rizzo. Junior Cody Vincent took the loss on the mound and dropped to 0-2.

St. Bonaventure will play Monmouth on Monday at noon.
