Final Stats

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The Bona bench had another huge game contributing 43 points as the St. Bonaventure women's basketball rolled to 70-49 win against Cornell at the Reilly Center on Monday afternoon.

Armelia Horton led the Brown and White in scoring for the first time this season, pouring in a season-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds. Dana Mitchell was the only other Bonnie in double figures, chipping in 11 points and four rebounds in the win.

Andrea Doneth was one of the many catalysts of the bench who had a strong showing today, tallying nine points while collecting six rebounds.

The Bonnies defense was a big reason for today's victory, as they held its third straight opponent to under 50 points. St. Bonaventure's defense forced Cornell into 19 turnovers on the day, and converted them into 21 points.

St. Bonaventure improves to 8-3 with the victory, keeping its perfect home record intact at 5-0. Cornell, who hadn't played a game in three weeks, drops to 4-4 for the season after the loss.

Cornell would start the game on a 7-2 run over the first four minutes of play. A three-pointer by Priscilla Edwards would bring the Bonnies within two, with 15:47 remaining in the first half. Four-straight points by Doneth would eventually tie up the game at 9-9.

The Bona defense would begin to stifle the Big Red offense, as they held Cornell scoreless for the next six minutes of play.

Back-to-back buckets by Megan Van Tatenhove would put the Brown and White in front for the first time in the game, 13-9, with 11:16 remaining in the half. St. Bonaventure would begin to take control of the game by going on a 7-0 run capped off by a steal and fast break lay-in by Horton.

A three-pointer by Doneth would extend the Bonnies lead to 28-13 with 7:07 to go in the first.

Katelyn Murray would miss the second of two free throws which would end her streak of 16-straight made free throws, putting the Bonnies up 35-21. As one streak ended for the Brown and White another one began, as Mitchell hit her first three-pointer of the season, and the 11th of her career, to give St. Bonaventure a commanding 38-21 lead with 2:42 remaining in the half.

The Bonnies would hit the 40-point barrier right at the end of the first half, on a basket by Jennie Ashton, for the first time this season putting St. Bonaventure up 40-21 going into half.

A basket by Virginia McMunigal would cut the Bona lead down to 16, at 48-32, with 14:31 left in the second half.

The home team would have a quick answer as Murray drained a three-pointer from the wing to push the Brown and White's lead back up to 52-32.

Another Bona three-pointer by Jessica Jenkins, her third of the game, kept the St. Bonaventure lead right around the 20-point cushion, at 60-41 with 7:50 remaining in the game.

That is where the Bonnies lead would stay, as Cornell would never come within 17 points of the Brown and White for the final five minutes of the game.

The Big Red were led by Shannan Scarselletta, who scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. The only other player in double figures for Cornell was Allie Fedorowicz, who had 12 points and a team-high six rebounds in the loss.

The Brown and White will have the next few days off as they enjoy the holidays. St. Bonaventure returns to the court on December 28, when they welcome Big East member Syracuse to the Reilly Center for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
