AKRON, Ohio –The men's swimming and diving team ended the Zippy Invitational in third place overall. The team earned 1435 total points, falling 191 points short of first-place team University of Buffalo and 34.5 points short of runner-up Xavier.
Sophomore Ethan Rowan kicked off the final day of the invitational, grabbing a second-place finish for the Bonnies in the 'A' final of the 1650-yard freestyle. He clocked a time of 16:23.31, an improvement over his fourth-place finish at the meet last year (16:29.05). Classmate Elias Homerin picked up fourth place this time around, swimming at time of 16:38.12.
In the 100-yard freestyle 'A' final senior Dawid Kundzik solidified another second-place finish for the Brown and White, touching in at 46.08.
Junior Peter Koenig earned a sixth place in the 200-yard backstroke, touching in at 1:56.71.
The efforts of senior Kevin Murphy and juniors Ilya Nenashev and Mike Dansa were good for a sweep of second, third and fourth places in the 'A' final of the 200-yard breaststroke. They clocked in at 2:08.05, 2:09.56 and 2:09.75, consecutively.
Junior Yi Liu picked up a third second-place finish for the day, swiming a 1:54.02 in the 200-yard butterfly 'A' final. Homerin nabbed fifth place with a 1:54.6.
In relay action the team of Murphy, Kundzik, senior Chris Baker and freshman James Martin earned yet another second-place finish for the Bonnies with a combined time of 3:05.42.
The Bonnies will be back in action on Dec. 17 as they take on Canisius. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5p.m.
