WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The opening round of the 22-team C & F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William and Mary commenced on Monday at Kingsmill Golf Resort with St. Bonaventure carding a four-man score of 302 to sit in a tie for 16th place.

The Bonnies faired six strokes better on the back nine of the par 71 course that measures 6,831 yards in distance. Out of the four counting scores, the Brown and White shot 154 on the front and 148 on the back for the opening round 302.

“I thought we battled today,” said head coach Andy Whalen. “The weather was difficult at times and there are a lot of teams within striking distance. Hopefully, we can come out tomorrow and have a good showing and finish this tournament with a good result.”

Missouri (288) leads the field of 20 teams that features seven schools from BCS conferences. Maryland, Rutgers and host William and Mary (292) are all tied for second place, while Towson (294) rounds out the top five. Positions 2-16 are separated by just 10 strokes.

As a team, the Bonnies ranked seventh among the field in pars with 54 and played the three par 5s at one-under for the day. Senior Nathan Peck (pictured) and junior Kristopher Boyes aided the solid scoring on the par 5 scoring, going two-under each on the three holes.

Peck and Boyes led the way with two-over par 71s, posting identical 37s on the front nine and 36s on the back. The duo is part of the 12-player tie for 21st among the 120-player field. Only five players broke par on the day.

Freshman Kevin Lewis tossed in the third score of the day with a 77, while junior Chris Stoddard and senior Andy Fretthold each had 79s.
