OPENING TIP OVERVIEW
The Bonnies make the quick turnaround, playing just over 48 hours after an impressive win over Georgetown of the Big East, 69-54, on Saturday afternoon. Monday marks the second of four home games in the span of a week for SBU.
Saturday's win marked the fourth in a row for the Brown and White, both overall and at home.
To keep their winning streak alive, the Bonnies will face another tough test by welcoming in a James Madison squad that is among the more successful programs in the nation and is again the favorite in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
ABOUT THE DUKES
- The James Madison Dukes come into the Reilly Center having played just two games on the road. The Dukes split those games, falling at UCLA, 90-61, on Nov. 20, and winning at Hampton, 68-56, on Nov. 29.
- Three players average in double-figure scoring for the high octane Dukes - redshirt senior Jazmon Gwathmey posts 17.8 ppg while senior guards Ashley Perez and Angela Mickens check in at 16.3 and 11.3 points per game respectively. JMU averages over 75 points per game and is strong inside and out - the Dukes have dominated on the boards (a +8.7 rebounding margin) and hit nearly eight three-pointers per game.
- In 2014-15, JMU finished with an overall record of 29-4, and 17-1 in Colonial Athletic Association games. James Madison won both the regular season CAA title and the CAA conference tournament to earn an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament last year. The Dukes fell in their opening game to Ohio State.
- In postseason play, the Dukes have won the CAA Tournament eight times, including the past two seasons and four in the last six years. JMU has sent a team to either the NCAA Tournament or the WNIT every season dating back to 2005-06.
- The Dukes bring back two starters and seven total letter winners from last season's CAA championship team. One starter/letterwinner is sitting out due to injury. Senior guard Ashley Perez leads the offense, her early season highlighted by back-to-back 20+ point performances against Morgan State (Nov. 17) and UCLA (Nov. 20). Redshirt senior guard Jazmon Gwathmey dropped 33 points against Liberty on Nov. 23, a game in which she went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line.
SERIES HISTORY WITH JMU
The two schools have met just once, when the Dukes handed the Bonnies their worst loss of the 2014-15 season, 76-43, at James Madison last year. James Madison held SBU to just 23.6 percent shooting (13-for-55) and won the battle of the boards, 53-27, leading to 23 second chance points. Nyla Rueter paced the Bonnies with 11 points while Gabby Richmond pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
