Johnson and Johnson Power Bonnies To 2-0 Start

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Asianae Johnson poured in 19 points and Tianna Johnson added nine to go along with 10 rebounds to lead the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team to a 50-42 victory over Siena Thursday evening at the Reilly Center.

The Bonnies (2-0) and the Saints headed to the fourth quarter tied, 34-34, after the elder Johnson drew a charge and proceeded to get fouled on the offensive end, converting the two free throws.

Bona's used a 10-4 run spanning from the 1:20 mark in the third quarter to the 3:33 mark of the fourth to take a 41-35 lead.

The Brooklyn native made four free throws down the stretch to ice the game, giving the Bonnies the victory.

It was a slow start offensively for both teams as Siena took a 22-21 lead into halftime despite the Bonnies holding the Saints to just 19.4 percent (6-for-31) from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

The Bonnies jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in the first quarter behind four quick points from the senior Johnson in the opening minutes.

Siena (0-2), however, quickly responded with an 8-0 run to grab its first lead of the contest, 12-9, midway through the first period.

It was more defense in the second quarter from the Bonnies, allowing Siena to make just one field goal in the period.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Nov. 13 on the road at Cleveland State.
