The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team heads out on the road for the first time in 2021 as the Bonnies travel to take on Cleveland State Saturday, Nov. 13. Tipoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
OPENING TIP
·       The Brown and White are wrapping up a stretch of three games in five days to begin the season.
·       The Bonnies enter Saturday's contest with a record of 2-0 coming off wins against Robert Morris (61-53) and Siena (50-42).
·       Tianna Johnson hauled in a career-best and team-high 10 rebounds and chipped in nine points in the victory over Siena. Asianae Johnson tallied a season-high 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting and grabbed five rebounds.
·       Graduate student Nikki Oppenheimer paced the Bonnies in the opener against Robert Morris, scoring a career-high 13 points off the bench.
·       Bona's finished Tuesday's opener against Robert Morris +20 in rebounding margin, the highest mark since the Bonnies finished +17 at UMBC in 2018. The Bonnies finished Thursday's game +5 (44-39) on the boards and are +25 through the first two games. Â
·       12 different players logged minutes Thursday against Siena.
SERIES HISTORY
·       The Bonnies and the Vikings are set to meet for just the fifth time Saturday afternoon in Cleveland. Bona's holds the edge in the all-time series, 3-1, but fell in the last meeting between the two schools Nov. 23, 2019 by a score of 65-62.
·       The Brown and White are 2-0 all-time on the road against Cleveland State, winning away from home in 2006 and 1991.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
·       Cleveland State comes into Saturday's matchup with a 1-0 record after opening with an 81-54 win over ETSU Tuesday evening. CSU is slated to play its first six games at home. The Vikings finished last season with an overall record of 14-9 overall and 8-8 in Horizon League play.
·       Following a loss to Wright State in the Horizon Tournament semifinals, the Vikings accepted an invitation to play in the Women's Basketball Invitational where they went on to win three games, defeating Portland, 67-64, in the WBI Championship Game. Cleveland State was picked to finish sixth in the Horizon League preseason poll.
·       The Vikings are led by sophomore Destiny Leo who averaged 27.7 minutes and 11.4 points per game off the bench, earning Horizon League Sixth Person of the Year honors as well as All-Freshman Team honors. Leo poured in a game-high 24 points Tuesday against ETSU in the victory. She was selected to the Preseason All-League Second Team prior to the start of this season.
·       Former Bonnies player Danielle Migliore currently serves as Cleveland State's Creative Content Coordinator. Migliore played for three seasons from 2016-2019, averaging 5.6 points and 3.0 rebounds as a junior.
UP NEXT
·       The Bonnies are off until Wednesday, Nov. 17 when they return to the Reilly Center to host Little Three rival Canisius. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.
