ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Maddie Dziezgowski poured in a career-high 16 points, but the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team suffered a 72-60 setback against Bucknell Monday evening at the Reilly Center.
Dziezgowski finished the contest 6-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-8 from behind the arc, both career-highs. The sophomore also pulled down five rebounds.
Redshirt senior Tori Harris registered her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Asianae Johnson also scored in double figures for the Bonnies, chipping in 16 points.
The Bonnies (5-3) were able to cut the deficit to nine, 65-56, with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter after Johnson converted and and-one.
Bucknell made six free throws down the stretch and held steady to earn the road victory.
The Bonnies looked to have the momentum coming out of halftime after the visitors took a double-digit advantage to the break.
Five points from Dziezgowski and a triple from Harris capped off an 8-0 run over 1:09 that brought the hosts within six, 41-35.
Bucknell (7-2), however, quickly answered with a 15-2 run to end the third period, taking a 56-37 advantage into the final quarter.
Bucknell controlled the game from the opening tip, jumping out to an early 7-2 lead in the opening minutes of the contest.
Carly Krsul made a layup just before the first quarter horn sounded, giving Bucknell am 18-12 lead after the first 10 minutes.
It was more of the same in the second quarter as Bucknell pushed its lead to 23-14 after a Marly Walls jumper with 7:03 on the clock.
The Bison lead grew to as many as 12 in the second quarter as they took a 33-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Bonnies are back in action Thursday on the road at Colgate. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
·       The Bonnies finished the contest shooting 40.0 percent (22-for-55) from the floor while Bucknell shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66) in the contest.
·       The Bison got out on the fast break, outscoring the Bonnies, 17-6, in fast break opportunities.
·       The Bonnies were outrebounded, 41-33, overall and 14-6 on the offensive glass.
