NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure golf graduate student Christian Chapman has earned Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week honors after a history-making start to the 2021-22 season.
Chapman set a number of program records through the first two weeks of the year while recording an outstanding 70.8 scoring average over eight rounds.
The Victor, N.Y. native tied the Bonnies program record with a 6-under par 66 in the first round of the year at the Little Three Championship on the way to medalist honors with a total of 5-under 139 to power St. Bonaventure's sixth consecutive victory over rivals Canisius and Niagara.
He went on to break the school record for best round two weeks later, shooting a 7-under 65 in the final round of the VCU Shootout. His record-low round came as part of a second-place finish in a field of 72 competitors after an opening round 67 and second round 73. He also set the Bonnies program records for low round vs. par as well as the best 54-hole total in school history (205) along with the low 54-hole total vs. par (-11).
He also helped the Bonnies to a fifth-place team finish at the Colgate Invitational with rounds of 73-73-77.
In all, he posted three rounds in the 60s during the week and just one round over 73.
Chapman shares the honor with VCU's Charlie Kennedy this week.
St. Bonaventure returns to action Sept. 25-26 at the MacDonald Cup hosted by Yale.
