OPENING TIP

  • The Bonnies are set to take home court for the first time since they hosted Marshall Dec. 12, a game in which they defeated the Thundering Herd, 50-47.
  • SBU is looking to snap a brief two-game skid, losing to Dayton, 90-43, last Tuesday and then Duquesne, 63-44, Saturday to begin the conference slate.
  • I'yanna Lops tallied 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks to pace the Bonnies. Returning for the Bonnies against Duquesne was junior forward Ene Adams who had missed the previous eight games due to injury. The Wichita State transfer matched a season high with 10 points and grabbed four rebounds in 15 minutes in her return.
  • The Brown and White are looking to avoid starting Atlantic 10 play 0-3 for the second straight season Wednesday against the Wildcats.

JOHNSON RETURNS TO THE LINEUP

  • Senior guard Asianae Johnson returned to the floor following a one-game absence. She finished with six points to go along with two rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes. Johnson leads the team in scoring and ranks 10th in the Atlantic 10, averaging 15.1 points per contest.
  • Johnson also ranks fifth in the A-10 in free throw percentage (76.4%), sixth in free throws made (42), ninth in assists per game (3.5 apg) and ninth in field goal percentage (42.1%).
  • The Brooklyn native has fared well against Davidson during her St. Bonaventure career. In six career games against the Wildcats, Johnson has averaged 28.8 minutes, 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and has shot 48 percent from the floor as well as 76 percent from the free throw line. The Bonnies are 3-3 against Davidson in Johnson's career.
  • In three games last season vs. the Wildcats, Johnson put up 18.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists while shooting 54 percent from the floor and 78 percent from the charity stripe in 34.7 minutes per game.

PROTECTING THE PAINT

  • Interior defense continues to be a point of emphasis for the Bonnies this season. Through 13 games this season, the Bonnies rank second in the Atlantic 10 in blocks (61) and blocks per game (4.7 bpg). The Bonnies' 61 blocks so far are the most in a single season since 2016-17 when the team rejected 91 shots. The Brown and White only amassed 55 blocks in 2020-21, 60 in 2019-20, 57 in 2018-19 and 53 in 2017-18.
  • The Bonnies have rejected five or more shots in nine games this season, blocking a season-high eight at ETSU Dec. 23.
  • Part of the success in swats comes from junior forward I'yanna Lops who ranks third in the Atlantic 10 with 27 blocks. She rejects 2.1 shots per game and her 27 blocks currently rank tied for 11th in a single season in the Bonnies record book. Lops has three or more blocks in six games this season, including a pair of four-block games against ETSU and last time out at Duquesne.

SERIES HISTORY

  • St. Bonaventure and Davidson are slated to meet for just the 11th time Wednesday. The Bonnies lead the all-time series over the Wildcats, 6-4. The two schools had never met prior to Davidson joining the Atlantic 10 in 2014.
  • The Bonnies and the Wildcats met three times last season. Bona's bested Davidson on back-to-back days at the Reilly Center, winning 71-58 Feb. 7 and then 71-63 the following day as part of schedule readjustments. The two teams met again in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament at Davidson with the Bonnies falling, 69-61.

SCOUTING DAVIDSON

  • Davidson enters Wednesday's contest with an overall record of 9-3. Wednesday will serve as the Wildcats' Atlantic 10 opener as they return from a 21-day layoff due to COVID-19 cancelations and postponements. Prior to their layoff, the Wildcats had won four straight and nine out of their last 10 games.
  • The Wildcats are coached by Gayle Fulks who is in her sixth season at the helm of the women's basketball team. Fulks touts a career coaching record of 63-65 in five-plus years at Davidson. The Wildcats were picked to finish 11th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll this season following a 9-14 finish last season.
  • Davidson is led by Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Third Team selection Suzi-Rose Deegan who averages 13.0 points per game. Deegan, however, has been limited to just six games this season. Elle Sutphin also averages double figures for the Wildcats, chipping in 12.9 points per contest.
