Balanced Scoring Lifts Bonnies To Road Victory at George Mason, 81-74

FAIRFAX, Va. – A balanced scoring attack lifted the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team to an 81-74 victory over George Mason Sunday at EagleBank Arena.

Asianae Johnson finished with a team-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds. Tori Harris added a season-high 19 points while I'yanna Lops registered her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

It was a slow start for the Bonnies coming out of the break while George Mason erased a first half deficit and was able to take a five-point lead, 39-35, early in the third.

The Bonnies, however, responded with another 10-0 run to retake the lead, 46-41, capped off by a Lops and-one.

Lops made back-to-back baskets for the visitors at the end of the third, taking a 55-45 lead into the fourth.

Bona's led by as many as 14, 64-50, in the fourth after a pair of free throws from the senior Johnson.

George Mason pulled back within six, 68-62, following a Jayla Adams three with 3:20 left in the game.

That is as close as the hosts would get.

St. Bonaventure improves to 9-8 overall and 1-5 in A-10 play while George Mason slumps to 6-12, 0-5.

The Bonnies fell behind early in the first, but used a 10-0 spurt capped off by back-to-back threes from Harris, gave the Bonnies an 18-10 lead late in the first.

Bona's hot shooting carried into the second quarter, taking a 25-13 lead early in the period.

Lops converted one-of-two at the line to give the Bonnies an 11-point, 30-19, advantage in the second.

The Patriots, however, started to heat up by using a 10-3 run to pull within four, 33-29, over the final three minutes of the half.

Amaya Scott did all she could for the Patriots, scoring a game-high 35 points.

The Bonnies are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 26 at home against La Salle. Tip is slated for 5:00 p.m.
