CLEVELAND – The St. Bonaventure University men's swimming and diving team's three days of action at the Magnus Cup hosted by Cleveland State were highlighted by a pair of records set by sophomore
Alexander Behr and the 800-freestyle relay team of Behr,
Nicholas Nakaya,
Maxwell Murray, and
Tomas Botero.
The Bonnies finished fifth out of 10 teams in the three-day competition with a final team score of 610. Xavier won the team title with 1,076 points, ahead of host Cleveland State (896), Gannon (740), Case Western (703) and SBU.
On day two of the competition, Behr swam a time of 47.52 in the 100-butterfly to set a new St. Bonaventure program record. He overtook Tjaard Krusch, who was at the top of the record book since he registered a time of 47.57 during the 2020-21 season.
At the end of Friday evening's competition, Bona's 800-freestyle relay team touched the wall in a time of 6:41.43 to shatter the meet record of 6:43.22 set by Simon Fraser University in 2017.
The Bonnies kicked off the three-day invite with a fifth-place from the 200-freestyle relay team of Behr,
Kyle Gluck,
Patrick Heldreth,
Griffin Witte (1:22.89). Gannon placed two-tenths of a second ahead of St. Bonaventure in the event.
Junior
Maxwell Murray registered a time of 4:30.69 to grab a fourth-place finish in the 500-freestyle. Also, he grabbed a sixth-place finish in the 1650-freestyle (15:57.78) and an eighth-place finish in the 200-freestyle at 1:40.60.
Behr notched a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-freestyle (45.12) and 200-butterfly (1:47.66), while earning a fifth-place finish in the 50-freestyle with a time of 20.67.
Senior
Nicholas Nakaya swam an eighth-place time of 1:53.78 in the A-final of the 200-IM.
Thursday evening was completed by the 400-medley relay team of Behr, Gluck, Nakaya, and freshman
Luigi Termine, placing third with a time of 3:20.81. IUP finished one-tenth of a second ahead of the Bonnies.
Termine finished third in the 100-backstroke with a time of 50.46, while fellow freshman
Henry Wilkes placed 10
th in this event (51.12).
Wilkes swam a time of 1:52.66 in the 200-backstroke to place sixth.
The 200-medley relay team of Wilkes, Nakaya, Behr, and Gluck delivered an eighth-place finish in the A-final, swimming a time of 1:31.96.
St. Bonaventure completed the Magnus Cup with a fourth-place finish from the 400-freestyle relay team of Behr, Gluck, Murray, and
Patrick Heldreth (3:02.28).
The Bonnies will host Little Three rival Canisius on Saturday, Dec. 3 for their Lyme Disease Awareness Meet. All proceeds for this meet will go toward the Lyme Disease Foundation. Diving is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by swimming at 12:30 p.m.
