BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Nov. 19, 2022 – The St. Bonaventure men's rugby team traveled to Indiana to face off against the Indiana Hoosiers, in the quarterfinals of the NCR Division 1 playoff.

The Bonnies got off to a hot start, applying pressure to the Hoosiers in the first half. The pack led 22-0 at one point.

Indiana struck late in the first and trailed 22-7 at halftime. Bonaventure's strong first-half play proved essential once the game tightened up in the second half.  

"It was a great team win in fairly difficult conditions. The boys showed some real grit and togetherness at the end to get us through to the next round," said Matthew Joss.

The second half witnessed the Hoosiers battle back and cut into the Bona lead twice, narrowing the score to 22-17. On the back of veteran players, the Bonnies scored again and held a 29-24 lead late.

Bonaventure held off Indiana and escaped by a final score of 29-24.

"We're proud of our performance, especially after a long road trip. 'Twas great to see players like Reed Hammond stepping up to the challenge and earning co-MVP. We look on to Brown at Berks, but we need to raise the bar higher," said Head Coach Tui Osborne.

With the win, the group now prepares to travel to PSU Berks, PA on Dec. 3. to face Brown University in the semifinals.
