READING, PA., Dec. 3, 2022 – The St. Bonaventure men's rugby team traveled to PSU Berks to face off against Brown University, in the semifinals of the NCR Division 1 playoff.
Bonaventure brought the physicality early and matched the Brown attack in the opening minutes. Eventually, the Bonnies gained an early 3-0 lead.
The first half progressed and Brown found its points scoring one try and two three-point kicks. The late surge provided the Bears an 11-6 halftime lead.
In the second half, the game took a turn toward a defensive battle of determination. Both teams collectively scored 6 points.
The Bonnies fell in the dying seconds by a final score of 14-9, seeing its season come to an end.
"Our men fought hard against Brown and couldn't be more proud of the effort all season. We'll get some much-needed rest and prepare for exams and on to 7's in the spring. We wouldn't be here without the tremendous support of our families, fans, and Alumni-Thank you! I'd also like to thank our staff, faculty, and administrators for their hard work in supporting our programs. We are looking forward to coming back stronger next Fall!" said Head Coach Tui Osborne.
The defeat brings the 15's season to an end and the program prepares for 7's action in the spring.
"An untimely end to a successful season. It was a game of little points, and Brown managed to capitalize where we did not. We simply didn't put points on the board when we had the chance. Brown never let up, they had great energy and determination. The loss was tough on us, but we reflect on the successes of the season as well as the failure. It wasn't us this year, but our strong younger classes tell of an exceptional future," said Rick Rose.
