Women's Basketball Visits VCU Wednesday

The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team looks to snap a two-game losing skid Wednesday, Feb. 16 on the road at VCU. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the Siegel Center.

OPENING TIP

  • The Bonnies seek to rebound following a 60-47 loss at George Washington last Saturday. The Colonials outscored the Bonnies 23-2 in the fourth quarter to erase a double-digit deficit.
  • Asianae Johnson tallied a game-high 17 points on 8-of-18 shooting while Tori Harris chipped in 12 points and four rebounds with three 3-pointers.

BONNIES BITS

  • Johnson continues to be an elite scorer this season, averaging 18.2 points per game which ranks second in the Atlantic 10. Her 20.6 points per game during conference play this year also ranks second in the A-10. Overall Fordham's Anna DeWolfe who averages 19.2 points per contest. During conference play, Saint Louis' Ciaja Harbison leads the conference at 20.8 points per game.
  • Overall, Johnson is shooting 45.8 percent from the floor this year good enough for fifth in the A-10 and best among conference guards. The 5-8 guard also excels at getting to the free throw line, leading the A-10 in made free throws and ranking fifth in free throw percentage, converting 77.1 percent of her shots from the line.
  • The Bonnies are one of the best teams in the Atlantic 10 this season at defending the 3-pointer this season. The Brown and White currently ranks second in the A-10 in three-point percentage defense, allowing teams to shoot just 29.3 percent from beyond the arc.
  • I'yanna Lops needs just one block to move into sole possession of fifth place all-time in single season blocks in Bonnies history. Her 35 blocks are currently tied with Katie Healy and Donna Ditota for fifth all-time.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The all-time series between St. Bonaventure and VCU sees its 11th matchup Wednesday evening in Richmond. The Rams lead the all-time series 10-0 over the Bonnies and is the only team in the Atlantic 10 St. Bonaventure has not beaten. The schools met last season at the Reilly Center where the Rams came out on top in overtime, 69-67. It was the second overtime contest in the short history of the series as the Rams bested the Bonnies, 77-75, in overtime during the 2017-18 season.

SCOUTING THE RAMS

  • VCU enters Wednesday's contest with an overall record of 12-8 and are 7-3 in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams are winners of four straight games, earning victories over Dayton (60-58), George Washington (56-53), La Salle (62-56) and Richmond (72-68).
  • Beth O'Boyle is in her eighth season as the head coach of the Rams and touts a 134-102 record and currently ranks second all-time in wins at VCU. O'Boyle led the Rams to a 2021 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. Bonnies head coach Jesse Fleming served as an assistant on O'Boyle's staff in 2012-13 while she was the head coach at Stony Brook.
  • The Rams were picked to finish fourth in this year's Atlantic 10 preseason poll, receiving one first-place vote. Taya Robinson was selected to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference first team and All-Defensive team. Robinson leads VCU in scoring this season, averaging 15.2 point per game. Sarah Te-Biasu also averages double figures for the Rams, chipping in 12.8 points per game.
  • As a team, VCU is one of the best in the country in ball security, ranking sixth in the NCAA in fewest turnovers (252). The Rams lead the Atlantic 10 in fewest turnovers, turnovers per game (12.6) and turnover margin (+3.1).
