HAMPTON, Va. – A seven-run third inning in the morning game sparked the St. Bonaventure University softball team to a doubleheader split against Norfolk State and Hampton Sunday at the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium.
The Bonnies bats came to life on the second day of the season, taking down Norfolk State, 7-2. In the weekend finale, Hampton scored in the first and that was all it needed in a 1-0 pitcher's duel.

Norfolk State was able to jump out to the early lead, 1-0, in the bottom of the second.
The Bonnies roared back, however, scoring seven runs in the third to take control of the contest.
Olivia Whitecar brought in the first Bonnies run with a single to left and then a few batters later, Grace Perechinsky reached on a fielder's choice, scoring two more.
The next batter was Olivia Moon who scored Emily Lewandowski on a sacrifice fly, making the score 4-1.
Later in the inning, Tierney Fitzgerald reached on a dropped fly ball that allowed Perechinsky and Madison Stewart to cross home. Samantha Moll tacked on the seventh run of the inning with a double to left-center, scoring Fitzgerald.
Norfolk State (5-3) got one back in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout.
Bona's starter Elizabeth Lis shut the door on the final three innings en route to a complete game win in the circle. The junior struck out four batters and scattered eight hits.

Hampton was able to score the game's only run in the top of the first off an RBI single from Emily Kepple following an error.
It was a pitcher's duel the rest of the way.
Ally Haskell got the ball in game two for the Bonnies, working a complete game while striking out three and allowing no earned runs.
Stewart and Lewandowski each registered a pair of hits for the Bonnies (1-3) in Sunday's finale.
The Bonnies are back in action with a three-game set at Elon beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 26.
