WILMINGTON, N.C. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to UNC Wilmington in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.

The Seahawks took game one, 2-0, and then grabbed the second half of the doubleheader, 8-0, in five innings.

The Bonnies (1-7) and the Seahawks (14-3) found themselves in a pitcher's duel in game one Saturday afternoon as the contest remained scoreless through the first four full innings.

UNCW finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth when the Seahawks plated the first run of the game on an RBI single. A second Seahawks run scored on an error just one batter later, taking a 2-0 advantage.

The Seahawks lead would stick as starter Em Winstead shut the door in the sixth and seventh. Winstead struck out 13 batters en route to the shutout.

Elizabeth Lis got the ball for the Bonnies, tossing a complete game and allowing just one earned run.

The Seahawks broke the game open in the third inning, posting three runs off a double and single.

UNCW added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away for good before tacking on an eighth run in the bottom of the fifth.

Brooke Bobbey registered a pair of hits to pace the Bona offense.

Tierney Fitzgerald was in the circle for game two, pitching 3.0 innings and surrendering five earned runs. Emily Phalen allowed three runs in an inning of relief work.

The Bonnies and the Seahawks wrap up their three-game set Sunday with a single game at 12:00 p.m.
