AMHERST, Mass. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to UMass, 7-5, in the finale of a three-game road series Saturday morning.

The Bonnies jumped ahead early when Grace Perechinsky singled home Haley Strang in the top of the first inning. A few batters later with the bases loaded, Grace Walker was hit by a pitch, driving in a second run in the opening frame.

UMass pulled one back in the bottom half of the first on an RBI single from Chloe Whittier.

The Minutewomen kept the bats going in the bottom of the second, plating a pair to take a 3-2 lead.

With two runners on and one out in the top of the fourth, Moon belted her first career home run, putting the Bonnies back on top, 5-3.

UMass wasted no time getting back in the ballgame, posting three runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth. Sarah Keagy drew a bases loaded walk before two more runs came across on an error, retaking the lead, 6-5.

The hosts tacked on a seventh run in the fifth when Payge Suggs singled up the middle, earning the series sweep.

Tierney Fitzgerald went the distance for the Bonnies, fanning three.

The Bonnies are back in action Tuesday, April 19 on the road at Niagara. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
