BUFFALO, N.Y. – Kennedy Haberl and Emily Lewandowski each drove in two runs to lead the St. Bonaventure University softball team to a 9-2 victory over Buffalo on the road Tuesday afternoon.
The Bonnies (8-35, 1-20 A-10) finally broke through in the top of the third inning, plating six runs in the frame to take a commanding lead.
With the bases loaded, Haberl slapped a ball to right field where it was muffed by the fielder, allowing all three runners to cross home and giving the Bonnies a 3-0 lead.
Haley Strang singled home Haberl two batters later, giving the Bonnies a four-run advantage and then Lewandowski capped off the inning with a two-run double, scoring Samantha Moll and Strang.
The Bulls (17-21, 8-11 MAC) pulled two runs back in the bottom half of the third on a pair of RBI singles, making the score 6-2.
The Bonnies quickly answered right back when Haberl singled home two runs in the top of the fourth, pushing the lead back to six, 8-2.
Olivia Moon plated the Bonnies' ninth run of the ballgame in the top of seventh on a sacrifice fly, putting the game out of reach.
Emily Phelan earned the win in the circle for the Bonnies, working 5.0 innings and striking out four. Tierney Fitzgerald tossed the final 2.0 innings, fanning a pair.
The Bonnies are back in action with the final regular season series beginning Saturday, April 30 at Joyce Field against Fordham. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
