ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Canisius Tuesday afternoon at Joyce Field.
The Griffs were able to take game one, 6-2, but the Bonnies bounced back and grabbed game two, 5-4.
Game 1 – Canisius 6, St. Bonaventure 2 – Box Score (PDF)
After plating a run in the opening frame, Canisius struck again for two runs off a single to left in the top of the second to take an early 3-0 lead.
Tierney Fitzgerald was able to pull the Bonnies back within one in the bottom of the second, belting her first home run of the season to center and scoring Olivia Moon.
Canisius (12-13) pulled away for good in the top of the fifth, plating three runs on a triple and a double.
Ally Haskell got the start for the Brown and White, striking out a pair over five innings of work. Elizabeth Lis tossed two innings in relief with three strikeouts.

Canisius broke through on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the third from a double off the bat of Gianna Fazzolari.
The Bonnies (6-21), however, quickly responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the third.
Victoria Jacques singled home Alyssa Ramarge followed by a Grace Perechinsky sacrifice fly. Elyse Graham capped off the four-run inning with a two-run single up the middle, giving the Bonnies the 4-3 lead.
The Griffs knotted the score at 4-4 in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch.
Graham came up clutch once again in the bottom of the fifth, lifting a bloop single to right field and scoring pinch runner Olivia Whitecar, giving the Bonnies back the lead, 5-4.
Canisius would not go quietly as Sophia Recrosio singled down the left field line, tying the score again, this time at 5-5.
The game headed to the bottom of the sixth all square.
With two outs and runners on the corners, Graham reached on a fielding error by Canisius, bringing around the game-winning run.
Emily Phelan went the distance for the Bonnies, fanning a pair and allowed just one extra base hit.
The umpires declared the game final after six full innings due to darkness.
The Bonnies return to Joyce Field Wednesday for a doubleheader against rival Buffalo. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
