ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure Athletics Department produced another impressive semester of academic success as Bonnies student-athletes compiled a 3.329 average GPA for the spring. In addition, 11 of the University's Division I teams posted a GPA of 3.2 or better.

It marks the 34th consecutive semester that St. Bonaventure student-athletes have boasted a department GPA of better than 3.0 – 17 straight years. Further, the average cumulative GPA for Bonnies student-athletes is 3.398.

A total of 13 St. Bonaventure teams surpassed an average GPA of 3.0 during the spring semester.

Women's tennis led the way for the semester with an average team GPA of 3.683. Next up were women's swimming and diving (3.598), women's lacrosse (3.553), women's soccer (3.538), softball (3.494) and golf (3.474).

"To successfully juggle all of the demands that being a Division I student-athlete presents is no easy task. Seeing how our student-athletes have responded and answered the bell makes me incredibly proud," St. Bonaventure Director of Athletics Joe Manhertz said. "The importance of succeeding in the classroom is something the St. Bonaventure Athletics Department has long championed and I am excited to see our current student-athletes building on this proud tradition. They continue to raise the bar and prove they will be leaders in their communities long after their playing days have wrapped up."

A total of 276 Bonnies finished the spring with a semester GPA above 3.0, good for 79 percent of the St. Bonaventure student-athlete population. Half of all Bonnies athletes reached a 3.5 or better GPA this past semester (174) while 39 athletes earned a perfect 4.0 semester GPA.

Cumulatively, 299 Bona's student-athletes own a GPA above 3.0 for their collegiate academic career, accounting for 86 percent of St. Bonaventure's 346 student-athletes.  

Over half of St. Bonaventure's active student-athletes also boast a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (181).

Earlier this month, seven St. Bonaventure programs earned Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for boasting perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. In that report, 11 of St. Bonaventure's teams scored 980 or better out of a possible 1,000 points in the latest academic year.
