CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore goalkeeper
Chiara Gottinger matched her career-high in saves with 11 to force a scoreless draw at Cleveland State Sunday afternoon.
Gottinger previously made 11 saves against Valparaiso and Niagara a season ago.
The Pirching am Traubenberg, Austria native tallied 10 or more saves in three games of the 2021 season, facing a combined 63 shots in those games.
Cleveland State (0-0-2) was on the offensive attack for most of the second half, recording 13 of their 24 shots in the final period.
The first 30 minutes of the game was a defensive battle between both teams as Cleveland State registered only three shots compared to St. Bonaventure's one shot.
However, the final 10 minutes of the first half were a different story.
The Vikings applied a lot of pressure late in the first half to the Bonnies second year goalkeeper.
Gottinger tallied four saves in the first half, securing back-to-back saves to end the scoreless period.
The best scoring chance for the Bonnies came off the foot of freshman
Ami Komori who was able to get off multiple shots in the 38
th minute, one of those shots was turned away by Vikings' goalkeeper Liv Fain.
Komori finished the game with four shots, while graduate forward
Cristina Torres registered two shots and junior midfielder
Lydia Choban tallied a shot for the Bonnies.
Erica Leinweber notched seven shots and Kathryn Ramicone recorded five shots to lead Cleveland State.
St. Bonaventure (0-0-2) was outshot by Cleveland State, 24-7.
The Bonnies will take on Little Three Rival Niagara on Thursday, August 25. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
