Women's Basketball Returns Home To Host Fordham Wednesday

The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team returns home following a two-game road trip to host Fordham Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Reilly Center. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.

It will be the Bonnies' Title IX Game and all girls ages 12 and under receive free entry to Wednesday's game.

St. Bonaventure and the Atlantic 10 celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX during this academic year, with league-wide celebrations and activations across all A-10 assets. The landmark civil rights legislation, signed into law on June 23, 1972, prohibits sex-based discrimination at any educational institution that receives federal funding. Title IX's passage created hundreds of thousands of opportunities across higher education for women's collegiate sports.

Members of Bona's nine women's Division I teams will be in attendance and will be honored during a ceremony at halftime.

OPENING TIP

  • The Bonnies look snap a three-game losing skid following an 0-2 road trip to Philadelphia last week, falling to Saint Joseph's Wednesday and La Salle Saturday. The Hawks shot nearly 60 percent from the floor in Wednesday's action, taking down the Bonnies, 92-61. In Saturday's matchup against the Explorers, Bona's was able to pull within a point in the third quarter, but La Salle was able to pull away for the 65-52 victory.
  • Maddie Dziezgowski led the Bonnies in Saturday's contest with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including four made 3-pointers. Breauna Ware chipped in 11 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists, playing 27 minutes in her second straight start.
  • The Bonnies have scored 50 or more points in four straight games since interim head coach Erica Morrow moved into that role. Prior to Jan. 19, the Bonnies failed to reach 50 points in four consecutive contests. The Brown and White have also improved at getting the free throw line, hitting 11 or more shots from the charity stripe during the four-game span.

DOWNTOWN DZIEZGOWSKI

  • Junior Maddie Dziezgowski leads the Bonnies this season with 30 made threes in just 15 games this season. She is nine 3-pointers shy of her career high of 39 which she made last season as a sophomore. With her 19 makes as a freshman, Dziezgowski has made 88 3-pointers in 62 career games with the Bonnies, ranking 15th all-time in Bonnies program history. She is shooting 34 percent from beyond the arc for her career.
  • The Bethel Park, Pa. native has six games this season with three or more 3-pointers made. She has 12 games of such manner during her career, including six games during the 2021-22 season.

LOPS CHASING HISTORY

  • Senior I'yanna Lops has turned away a career-high 51 shots this season, ranking second in the Bonnies' record book for a single season. Lops currently holds the second and third spot in the single season block list. The 6-3 forward is just two blocks shy of surpassing Katie Healy's single season best 52 blocks which she set during the 2015-16 season.
  • With four blocks Jan. 14 at Davidson, Lops became the third player in Bonnies history with 100 career blocks with her career mark now sitting at 112. Katie Healy, '16 (155 blocks) and Vachelle Manly, '92 (123 blocks) are the only other players in program history with more than 100 blocks.
  • The Stamford, Conn. native ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 11th in the NCAA with 51 blocks, setting a new career-high. She also sits second in the A-10 and 19th in the NCAA with 2.1 blocks per game.
  • Lops has 15 games during her Bonnies career with three or more blocks while also registering four games with five or more. Earlier this season at Bucknell, Lops set the single game record with seven blocks.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Bonnies and Rams are set to meet for the 46th time Wednesday evening at the Reilly Center. Bona's holds the edge in the all-time series, 24-21, despite falling in eight straight matchups to Fordham. The last time the Brown and White bested the Rams was Jan. 7, 2016 when the Bonnies won, 55-41, at the Reilly Center behind 14 points from Katie Healy and Nyla Rueter. The Bonnies are 13-6 all-time against the Rams at the Reilly Center.

FORDHAM NOTES

  • Fordham enters Wednesday's contest with an overall record of 14-8 and are 6-3 in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams have won two out of three games, but most recently lost to Saint Louis, 87-84, Saturday afternoon.
  • The Rams were picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll while Anna DeWolfe earned Preseason All-Conference First Team honors and Asiah Dingle garnered Second Team and Defensive Team accolades.
  • Candice Green was named interim head coach of Fordham women's basketball in July 2022, following the dismissal of long-time head coach Stephanie Gaitley. Green was a standout player at Colgate from 2009-12, playing in 111 career games.
  • Dingle (19.5 ppg) and DeWolfe (18.5 ppg) are first and second, respectively, in scoring in the Atlantic 10. Dingle, a graduate guard, is the NCAA active career leader in steals with 298 for her career and is second the in the A-10 this season in steals (72) and steals per game (3.3).

  • The Bonnies host Saint Louis Sunday, Feb. 5 at 1:00 p.m. inside the Reilly Center in the team's annual Pink Game. Join the Bonnies in the fight against breast cancer with raffles throughout the game. All proceeds benefit Olean General Hospital, the Pink Pumpkin Project and the Zonta Club of Olean.
