BUFFALO – Dani Haskell poured in 22 points while Isabellah Middleton registered 13 tallies, but the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Buffalo, 78-69, Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Arena.
Haskell finished 7-of-14 from the field and 5-for-10 from beyond the arc and Middleton finished 5-for-6 from the floor, adding four rebounds and four assists.
The Bonnies came out of the gates fast, erupting for 31 first quarter points to take an early 12-point lead.
Haskell and Middleton combined for 20 of the 31 points, matching to shoot 7-for-11 from the floor.
It was more of the same in the second period from the Brown and White as they shot 46.2 percent from the floor.
The Bulls were able to pull within five, 38-33, with 4:17 remaining in the first half, but Haskell came down the floor and drained a 3-pointer to put the Bonnies back up eight.
Buffalo (4-1) made three free throws at the end of the half to cut its deficit to seven, 47-40, at the half.
The hosts were able to get right back in the game at the start of the third quarter, using a 7-2 spurt to begin the half and bringing the Bulls within two, 49-47.
Buffalo stayed hot in the third, closing the period on a 9-0 run to take a 59-55 edge into the final frame.
Maddie Dziezgowski came out firing in the fourth, sinking back-to-back threes to put Bona's back on top, 61-59.
The Bulls answered, however, with a pair of threes of their own to retake a four-point lead, 65-61.
A layup from Taylor Napper with 6:27 showing on the clock brought the Bonnies within a possession, but Buffalo answered with a 13-2 run to take advantage of the contest for good.
The Bonnies (1-4) are back in action Saturday afternoon on the road at Loyola (MD). Tip is slated for 2:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
- As a team, the Bonnies shot 70.6 percent (12-for-17) in the first quarter.
- The Bonnies' 47 points in the first half was the most points in a half since they scored 48 points in the second half against George Mason Jan. 23, 2022.
- Bona's finished the afternoon shooting 48.1 percent (26-for-54) from the floor while Buffalo shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the field.
