SYRACUSE – A dominating second half sent Syracuse to victory, 22-6, over the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team Tuesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.
Freshman Patrick Carpenter scored two goals to lead the Bonnies.
St. Bonaventure trailed the Orange by just two in the shots category, 39-37, but when the hosts shot, they rarely missed.
Syracuse (5-4) outscored the Bonnies 9-0 in the third quarter and put 22 of its 26 shots on goal into the back of the net.
The Bonnies kept things close during the first half, only being outshot by a 21-18 total.
Carpenter fired a missile just underneath the crossbar for a 1-1 tie a little over five minutes in.
Syracuse scored the next three, but the Bonnies cashed in on a man-up opportunity with 12 seconds left in the first quarter when Joey Paterno deposited a pass from Josh Rosa to close within 4-2.
The Orange went on another run, but the Bonnies were within five after Mark Belles delivered his fifth goal of the year for an 8-3 score at the half.
The third quarter completely belonged to Syracuse as the hosts broke the game open. In the third, Syracuse scored on nine of its 10 shot attempts as they were nearly perfect in the attack.
Tage Hoeg provided the highlight of the night for the Bonnies as he scored an incredible, leaping goal late in the fourth quarter, wrapping around from behind the back of the net.
Kyle Pepper also tallied a goal for the Brown and White while Jake Rosa had an assist as well.
Cam Germain caused two Syracuse turnovers on defense and Quinn Nolan won eight of 16 faceoff attempts.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday afternoon at Marquette. Faceoff in Wisconsin is set for noon Central, 1 p.m. Eastern.
